Always thought it looked like the bird on the side was watching the cab door intently, just waiting to snap up any unsuspecting crewmember who tried to exit.

Anyone know how this operation is doing financially these days? Have ridden it a few times, a few years ago did full RT from Santa Fe to Belen and back, enjoyable ride ....

Financially, revenues certainly don't cover costs.  Economically it is probably doing OK.  It does serve a low density population area compared to any other U.S. commuter rail systems* so it's benefit to cost ratio is probably not as good as other new systems like Sounder and Coaster.

As an old crabby fart, I look at these and just shake my head.   I know they are purpose built, efficient and all that but Good Lord, they're as ugly as a lard bucket full of armpits.
Somebody must be tasked with designing the ugliest thing they can imagine.
Now an SP 4300........................That's what I'm talkin about.

He says what he's talking about is an SP 4300, but I disagree that an SP 4300 looks like a lard bucket of armpits.  A champagne bucket of elbows, maybe...
