N&W - 1776 - Having a Bad Day !
Author: Thoroughbred-Ed

Thirty Nine years ago, August 30, 1976

N&W  -  Norfolk and Western 1776  SD-45  Bicentennial derailed.
Remember working third shift N&W yard clerk Conneaut, Ohio.
Just before getting off duty at 6:30 a.m.  Monday morning
Eastbound 12LBC -  Lake Erie - Bellevue - Conneaut - had yard his train.

Cutting away in the eastbound yard he proceeded and came onto the main.
His next move was head west onto the switching lead towards the westbound yard
and onto the engine track when the rail broke and spread.

At that time I was 24 years old with five years seniority.

Conneaut -  Mile Post  116  is located between Buffalo, N.Y.  MP  00001
and Bellevue, Ohio  MP  248.  Cleveland is MP 184

Would be nice if NS would put 1776 back in service, but don't believe its possible.

Your  Welcome,  miss those N&W  -  NS  days.

1776 is still looking good in
the N&W museum at Roanoke, Va.

NS did a great job repainting it.
