Nostalgia & History > Fields of Burlington Northern GreenDate: 08/30/15 05:38 Fields of Burlington Northern Green Author: run8diesel Four old-school 'Deuces' lead the MNSNTW westbound at the Lee Rd. crossing (MP70) on the former Burlington Route's C&I Sub at Lee, IL on a fine July 11, 1999.
At the time of this shot, BNSF was already 4 years old, but no orange GEs in this shot! Imagine turning back the clock to the 60s and seeing a Burlington Zephyr speeding through this scene...note to Marty Bernard...might you have any shots here? Scanned from a K64 slide. Steve Zahn Glenview, IL Date: 08/30/15 08:38 Re: Fields of Burlington Northern Green Author: UP951West It's a pretty shot. Thanks for sharing.
Date: 08/30/15 10:55 Re: Fields of Burlington Northern Green Author: ntharalson May not have any orange in the shot, but the BNSF influence is evident on the lead unit. Note
the lowered headlight. Not enough BN green on this board of a Fallen Flag that's been gone almost 20 years! Can that be possible? Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 08/30/15 13:34 Re: Fields of Burlington Northern Green Author: coach I always liked the BN green, and the Pacific NW scenes from the early era when F's and ALCO's still ran around are priceless.

For the curious, only one of these 4 engines is still owned by BNSF: #6912 (nee-#6335, blt. 2/72) is now #1919. As for the other 3: the #7172 (blt. 9/79) was later Helm (HLCX) #7172, and was bought (or leased to?) in 2008 by the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia RY; the #7840 (nee-C&S, blt. 7/78) also went to Helm and was bought in 2013 by the Linea Coahuila Durango S.A. de C.V. in Durango, Mexico; and finally, the #7111 (blt. 12/78) was later CEFX #7111, and was bought in August 2011 by NS as #3466. All on line too I'd wager. You think it was a "shooter"?! Didn't bother me but now a lot of the same folks are probably saying how they miss it. Oh well, will there be a time when people are saying man I sure do miss those Dash 9's lol?
