Nostalgia & History > Call out the wreckerDate: 08/30/15 05:51 Call out the wrecker Author: run8diesel On Burlington Northern's East End, a classic wreck train heads west from Cicero to who knows where on a brilliant Nov. 7,1976. Photo taken one mile east of Eola Yard, and just east of the EJ&E Bridge.
Yes, I know...shouldn't have been standing on the main to shoot these pics...the ignorance of my youth. Steve Zahn Glenview, IL Date: 08/30/15 08:02 Re: Call out the wrecker Author: 3rdswitch Nice catch. RP would surely reject that fine photo as they don't believe in super elevated curves ;-)

Since the wires have to "curve" also, any pole in the middle of the curve would be pulled by the wires towards the inside of the curve. The "leaning pole to the outside of the curve" method would reduce or eliminate the need to guy-wire the pole to keep it in position. The Milwaukee Road did something similar on its wooden poles that held up the catenary in electrified territory. They lean away from the tracks to keep from having to guy-wire each one.
