These pictures were taken 8/30/1982 at WM (Chessie) Hagerstown yard.  I meant to post them yesterday, being exactly 33 yrs, but forgot so here they are a day late.  They aren't the greatest quality, being scans of prints, but as we can't go back they are better than nothing.

1 - BL2 7172, formerly Chessie 7182, before that WM 82.  It had it's number changed as MARC had a 7182 for commuter service.

2 - 7172 working the east end of the yard

3 - cab track. I may have posted this before, can't remember.

4 - westbound out of CR Rutherford yard arriving Hagerstown

5 - the westbound going by the yard office.

One of the joys of being a teenage railfan in the late 70's early 80's was the variety of color schemes on the engines with Chessie and CR.

6 - the WM roundhouse still stood then, inside was the 614.  Yes, not a good shot but can't retake it today.

7 - 2100 rusting away

8 - another shot of 2100

With the restoration plans for 2100 thought I'd put these photos on here.  For those younger viewers, what many of us miss about 20 or 30 years ago is being able to walk into a yard office and sign a release then having the run of the place.  Even as a teen, I signed my release with the yardmaster and was just told to stay out of the way, and then wandered around the roundhouse and yard area.  Too bad we didnt have digital cameras as I could have taken many more shots.

Great photos from the past.  As you can see the 2100 had been stripped of many parts to make the 2101 operational and in your photo showing it sitting outside the Hagerstown, Maryland Western Maryland Roundhouse one can plainly observe that the coal tender attached to the 2100 came from the 2101.  The tenders were swapped when the 2101 was cosmetically restored back to American Freedom Train #1 and sent to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.  The sad part now is the 2101 almost looks as bad as the 2100 did back then when one visits the B&O R.R. Museum today as the current management of the museum has allowed the 2101 to sit and rust away and they just don't care either.
