The depot in the background appears to be South San Francisco, CA, see p.31 of Hayes' Southern Pacific Depots in California v.1.  This structure was replaced some time in the 1940's by a brick box depot that lasted into the 90's.

That latter depot was one of the least appealing SP depots I've ever seen. But probably in keeping with the motto of the city of SSF: "The Industrial City."
