Nostalgia & History > A Few SP from 01-1994Date: 09/03/15 10:54 A Few SP from 01-1994 Author: dlbowen On 01-07-94 these photos were made at the Pond Rd overpass over SH 99. This is the east end of the SP Delfar (Delano McFarland) siding in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California.
1. SP 7459 E. emerging from the almost completely burned off morning fog. 2. SP 7459 E. a little closer. 3. Train gone 1 worker 1 boss working on the turnout. Your caption for number three reminds me of a discussion in our Southern California technical illustration department back i the 1960's. A number layoffs had occurred in the TI department of a competing aerospace company following the loss of a contract. The fellow relating the news was from New York and had a very heavy accent. He was reeling off a long list of names of people we mostly knew, when one of our people said "Good grief, who's left?", to which the New Yorker replied ,"one supervisor, one lead man and a wurkur".

I like the straightness of the siding in relation to the main, at least until it get further and looks like it goes around to avoid a signal or relay mast. At least the boss appears to be protecting his "wurkur" by looking out for any approaching movements.
