Shelbyville IN is about 30 MI southeast of Indianapolis on them old NYC Indianapolis-Cincinnati Line, once the route of the James Whitcomb Riley. At the time the attached photos were taken, Oct 23 1982, CR had a local based out of this location. The photos show the general area, the depot, and the assigned engine and caboose.

Photo 2 Trackside view of depot facing SE toward Cincinnati.

Thanks very much for your message.
In August 1971, my wife and I made a train trip that included an Indianapolis-Cincinnati round trip on the Amtrak James Whitcomb Riley.  The eastbound trip was in the dark; the westbound trip was in the daylight.  I remember the line as being very scenic.
