A Few from the Glacier Park area.
Author: dlbowen

My wife and I took a vacation trip to Glacier National Park among other places in 08-1994.  These first 3 are from east Glacier.
1. BN 6818 W. crosses a very colorful bridge near the park entrance
2. BN 7043 W. crosses a very colorful bridge near the park entrance
3. A MK rebuild 9045 heads east

4. The Izzak Walton Inn.  A great place to stay and watch trains.
5. View from across from the IWI BN 8136 W.

Much more color and variety back then.

Last week I drove from Great Falls to Kalispell via Logan Pass and did not see that cool bridge, unless it has been repainted.  Where exactly is it?  I don't want to miss it again next year when I return to the area to canoe the Missouri Breaks.  Thanks for the great photos, and especially nice catch with the MRL three deuces and the M-K power together.

NICE!!! I've never seen photos of that bridge.  Is it still painted like that?

Yeah, I want to know about this bridge too! It's awesome!
Also, the sense of depth in that last photo is incredible. Thank you for sharing!

This was taken 24 years ago so I don't know the present condition of the paint.  US 2 is just on the other side of the bridge and the steps on the left lead to the east Glacier Amtrak Depot

John, it is East Glacier, MT.  Blackfeet country and wide open spaces there.

Don, it was so nice to meet you at Izaak Walton back then.  I remember our discussions!

Wow, David!  I remember our discussion very well at breakfast as you were our server.  I was wondering what had happened to you.  Three cheers for TO.  Some photo files will follow from my trip to east Java

Logan Pass is on the Going to the Sun Road. This bridge is still in fine paint on Hwy 2. The road you were on runs east of East Glacier so you have to drive into town to see it. That's OK since there is gas, food and lodging available in town.

Yes, East Glacier.  You can't miss it if you stay on Highway 2 across Marias Pass (following the BNSF), but if you took the Highway 89 cutoff between Browning and St. Mary, you would miss it.  The bridge is just east of the Glacier Park station depot at East Glacier.  In fact the west end of the station platform crosses over this bridge.

Don, check out the December 2004 issue of CTCBoard (one of the "all-BN" issues) and you can read an article I wrote about my summers working at Izaak Walton Inn...
