Enjoy, Marty Bernard Date: 10/06/15 16:49 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: ExSPCondr Actually they ARE baby Train Masters.
A Train Master is an H24-66. Date: 10/06/15 16:51 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: knotch8 Wonderful! Thanks.
Date: 10/06/15 16:52 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: MitchGDRMCo Thought the Baby Trainmaster was the H16-66.

Steve Date: 10/06/15 17:43 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: King_Coal Hat's off to Mr. Pluta for the wealth of photos he has left us. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Date: 10/06/15 17:48 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: MartyBernard Yes, Baby Trainmasters had six-wheel trucks. I double checked that before posting the photo.
Marty Date: 10/06/15 18:01 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: UP951West Marty, it's the first time I've seen a photo of these locos.
Thanks for posting Roger Puta's slides. ...Kelly Date: 10/06/15 18:06 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: MartyBernard I hope I find a front end view.
Date: 10/06/15 23:32 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: Evan_Werkema FM apparently never officially named any of its locomotive models the "Baby Train Master." It's purely a railfan moniker, and is therefore never or always wrong, depending on who you talk to.
In a sidebar titled "When is a Train Master not a Train Master?" in the August 1973 Trains, page 37, J. David Ingles points out that while the H24-66 is undeniably the Train Master, railfans have used "Junior Train Master" and "Baby Train Master" to describe both the four axle H16-44 and six axle H16-66 over the years. He suggests calling the H16-66 "Junior" and the H16-44 "Baby," but it's pretty clear that 42 years later, the railfan community has yet to reach consensus. Port Covington was the terminal for the Western Maryland in Baltimore and the photo does not look like those engines are on the WM. Port Covington yard is gone now as CSX sold the property back in the 1980's. All trains operate over on the former B&O to Riverside Yard and Locust Point Yard which are joined together near Fort McHenry in South Baltimore. Unfortunately, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_H-16-44 says the same thing about the four-axle units. :-/ Date: 10/07/15 06:03 Re: B&O Fairbanks Morse H16-44s in 1969 Author: Out_Of_Service my first thought was Baby Train Master ... there are plenty of photos in the train mags of the 70s with the 44s being called BTMs

that these are the tracks that go into the Curtis Bay Yard. |
