Train 51 the Oakland bound San Joaquin Daylight has a red  train order board as it slows for its station stop at Modesto back in 1961.

Hmmm.  I wonder if someone stole the nose medallion, and this was the quickie patch job that someone did.  Bet it didn't last long!

Looks to me like that kid with the "high water" pants has experienced a recent growth spurt.  Back in '61, that was NOT a good look.  AA

Con will get his and flagman's copies from operator during station stop. Fireman is about to snag the head end's set.

Bob, I bought an 8 x 10 of this photo from you some years ago and it now hangs in my den where I have the pleasure of seeing it daily. That metered parking lot across the track was for all day parking. I remember my parents off on shopping errands while I was happy to stay behind, just watching the SP activity. The last steam I saw there in regular service was a 2-6-0 in the summer of 1956. It was a light engine, stopped briefly on the mainline while the crew went into the depot.

I'd like to see him fire THAT thing ! Always find it funny when you hear about, "Firemen," on diesels.
