Based on these three photos, here is what I surmise happened on February 6, 1970.  Bangor and Aroostock locals trains 1st 57 and 1st 58 had BAR F3A 44 and BAR BL2 51.  Roger Puta talked his way into a cab ride when the BL2 was leading.  Maybe he rode in a cab in both directions.  The captions are based on what he wrote on the slide mounts.

1. BAR 44 (Train 1st 57) switching at Caribou, ME

2. Looking back from cab of BAR 51 at 1st 58 near Phair Jct., ME

3. Looking from the cab of the BL2 at lower quadrent semaphore near Oakfield, ME

Hopefully I'll come upon more slides from this day.

Nice photos, and you did a good job of scanning . . . the snow is not blown out and you can see detail on the dark locomotives.

Gee, how many photos from the cab of a BL2 have been posted on TO?

Wow... Roger Puta was quite a photographer! His shots are well composed and I really like the first one of the brakie w/ his Kromer cap!
Thanks for your diligence in scanning and posting these gems, Marty, so that we can all appreciate the late Roger Puta's amazing work.

Talkin' about the BL2 cab. I'd be very keen to see the interior, in particular the long hood side. Anyone out there who knows how to find relevant photographs?

Excellent!  Sadly there's very little railroading left in Aroostook County these days.
