Nostalgia & History > My first wheresitDate: 10/08/15 09:31 My first wheresit Author: cewherry Armstrong turntable might be a clue. Any takers?
It's been over an hour with no stabs so here's another clue. I believe this cinder block structure may still be standing according to Google Maps. Also, the location is not my normal stomping grounds. More clues: This shortline had its general offices at 11 Water Street according to the Official Guide of December 1965. The November 1958 Guide shows mixed train service over the line. Charlie Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 10/08/15 12:28 by cewherry. ------------------------------------------------------- > is that belfast, maine? Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!! We have a winnah! Good work!! My wife's relatives live in Camden, Rockland and Rockport. We flew to Boston and then drove 'Down East' to spend time with them. On our way to Bar Harbor one day we passed through Belfast so naturally I detoured a bit to search out the Belfast & Moosehead Lake. Apparently their locos were stored inside one of these two buildings or maybe they were out on the line to Burnham Junction where they interchanged with Maine Central. Couldn't spend enough time to do a proper check so left after getting these. Note the industrial strength marker holders. Maybe to hold them on the sides when the deep snow weighs them down. Also looks like the crew shoved a bit too far. (One wheelset buried in the dirt). Is this road or its descendents active today? From what I could see on Google it appears rail starts at City Point today. Charlie Thanks 3rdswitch Joe Blackwell for the inspiration. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/08/15 16:27 by cewherry. Today's operation is a RT excursion over a 10 mile segment between City Point and Brooks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belfast_and_Moosehead_Lake_Railroad_(1871%E2%80%932007) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belfast_and_Moosehead_Lake_Railroad_(2009) http://belfastandmooseheadlakerail.org/joomla/index.php/maine-train-rides-and-excursions |
