Short video after an NS Steam Special of NS at Manassas Yard on 10/14/89.  From what I recall, this was a northbound intermodal that split at Manassas with the lead power and head-end cars going to Van Dorn St. Yard in Alexandria and the rest of the train with the Conrail power going up the B Line.  Perhaps someone with more knowledge (and a better memory) can chime in.

Great video.  When the intermodal runthrough service was initiated between Conrail and NS at Hagerstown, the train did not run independently south of Manassas.  Instead it was combined into the existing train between Atlanta and Alexandria at Manassas as you captured.  I think the Hagerstown trains were 233/234, and the Alexandria trains were 203/204 or maybe 219/222.  Once the Hagerstown train began running as a separate train to Atlanta in the early '90s, it was resymboled 211/212 and remains on the route with those numbers today.

Thanks very much for the details, I had forgotten the symbols.  I remember when they used to run to Pot Yard and then go north on the NEC before the routing changed.

Awesome video. It's worth mentioning the NS 7000 was one of only 3 GP40X units rosters by SOU /NS. SOU /NS practice in this area was 3 or 4 7000 series engines on their hotshots.  (Today, only 4 GP50s remain.). That old yellow suburban also brought back some memories too.  Looked like the CR crew had some trouble keeping the door closed on 5046.

The above is NS #204. He has #234's set off for Hagerstown. The power from #233 was Conrail the schedule was such  that it  would only layover a few hours at Manassas  before heading back north. I think the #233 and #234 operated tuesday thru saturday when I was there. #203/204 had replaced for the former symbols #219 and #222.  By this time #203 and #204  originated and  terminated at Van Dorn Steet in Alexanderia.  #204's Hagerstown cut would be on the headend. After cutting their power off and the 234 backing down on the main to get there cut.  The #204 crew would  then help put the EOT on the rear car of #234 and the train  would move off the main onto the wye and on to the Branch. When the train started the normal power for #233/234 were two CR units. Thanks for the great video.

I liked seeing the SP trailer on the first flat!  They are history now too.
