Yeah, good luck on that one. Getting approvals from the FRA, FTC and the DOJ would be difficult to say the least.

Besides that, if NS is going to merge with anyone it should be BNSF ;-)

The UP has bigger problems with declining traffic and can't take on the decline of the Appalachian coal traffic too.

NS can't merge with the UP since it doesn't have Pacific in its name.

I donno...  you could do a BNSF and get PUNS (Yuk, Yuk).

at least if there were a UP+NS merger is that they could call it Southern Pacific!
