Do you remember a bell that would continuously ring inside whenever a a train was approaching?

Switch 9 had one too. I don't remember hearing ones at Shed 10 or Shed 47.

Very nice shots.

All the sheds had one

Oh yeah!  I'd forgotten about the bell.    Mostly I remember feeling reasonably safe in the Norden Sheds. With the help of the operator's line-ups, a bit of "situational awareness", and a healthy respect for switch points, a guy could pretty much stay out of trouble.
Well.....   most guys.
A dear friend who's name I won't mention (but if I did, would be Jeff Brouws) used to worry the hell out of me in places like this-  Jeff is a brilliant photographer and writer, no doubt you have one of his fine books.  But, honestly, he didn't show a lick of sense on The Hill in winter.  As a matter of fact: I OWN Jeff Brouws- I saved him from a rouge spreader in a tunnel at Yuba Pass once.  Ask him- he'll tell ya

I think that's Jeff in the first post of this series- the photo of the 3 train orders.

The bell at Norden surivived well into the UP era. I remember hearing it without a doubt as late as 2002. Can't say for how long after that it survived. It's gone now though.

In the last two shots; Is that the Train Order indicator hanging from the ceiling of the shed?

The CTC signal for the siding is visible on the left and I believe the signal for the main is on the leftside when approaching west on the #2 track (out of view on the right side of the photos).

Oh and notice that the eb used the siding x-over to enter Norden siding.

That's maybe a fair guess,  I was wondering the same thing- not sure.
On the #1 track there was a TO signal just inside the shed entrance.  You can see it in the photos of the WP detour photos in my earlier post-  It's up against the wall on the engineers side at the 5th post- it's kinda hard to see in my photo.  It has the customary two lights and under them was a lighted box with TRAIN ORDERS spelled out vertically.  (see photo attached)

All the EB trains were doing that on the day I shot these.  I don't know why.

Great pictures boiling man and nice memories as well.  Myself, Dick Steinheimer and Dick Dorn spent a lot of time up there in the 1970's and 1980's. Sterin was up there in the late 1950'sand 1960's. I shot my first pictures around 1964 when F-7's ruled the roost. I was good friends with the all of the operatores up there including the late Harry Hannes, Shorty Teil and Danny Teil (No relation).  The were fan friendly and allowed us to have access to the sheds much to the displeasure of Bill Lynch. Shorty Teil and Harry Hannes opened their homes to us and Dick Dorn and I would stay at Norden for many weekends, year around.  Both Dick and I have flimsies from Norden.  I have orders from the late 60's and Dick Dorn has a copy of the last orders issued at Norden in August 1985.  Norden was and still is a magical place for Railfans. Its still a challenging place for train operations year around.  I could go on and on abou the Norden Experience.   Meteorologist Mike Pechner

I'm betting it's the track 2 interlocking signal.
