Restoration of Rattan Seats
Author: MartyBernard

Yesterday there was a Facebook post of a photo of the Single Truck Birney #10 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum.  It was originally Pacific Electric Car 332 but is presently painted as Tucson, AZ No. 10 which used it to start their trolley car service.

I spent many weeks during the winter of 2010-2011 re-rattaning the car's seats.

1. The car out on the sunny day of March 5, 2011.

2. Steps in the restoration, plywood backing, rattan glued to canvas held in with tacked splines, and spar varnished.

3. And the results.

Nice to see someone make a difference rather than complain about Cars and Locos awaiting restoration..Great craftsmanship!

Nice work.  I hope to make it to this museum sometime.  If I do and I ride this car, I will be appreciative of your effort.

Thanks Marty for your hard work to restore something that casual visitors might take for granted.

We have many volunteers like you working at museums and operating displays all over the world to be thankful for!
