Nostalgia & History > The Broadway Limited at Englewood, 1965Date: 11/24/15 22:28 The Broadway Limited at Englewood, 1965 Author: MartyBernard The station stop of PRR E7A 5853 with The Broadway Limited at Englewood Union Station, Chicago, IL about 20 minutes from here pumper post at Chicago Union Station on April 21, 1965. The two Broadway train set's square-end observation cars were Mountain View and Tower View (2MR-1DB PS). I think Photo 2 is of Mountain View. The third image is the diagram for both cars.
I created a Photo Blog of all the trains that morning at Englewood. It is at: http://railfan44.blogspot.com/2012/11/a-morning-at-englewood-union-station.html Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 1 time(s). I was in the Navy on my way from Newport, R.I where I had just finished communications officer school to Las Vegas, Nev. to visit my parents in nearby Boulder City. I rode the New Haven down to New York, then the Broadway to Chicago where I killed the day waiting to make my connection late in the afternoon with the Union Pacific "City of Los Angeles." After my home visit I was off to meet my ship, USS Buck (DD-761), which I eventually boarded in Hong Kong. Those were some days!

Everytme I worked passenger service I would always be decorating the vestibule at Englewood and in my mind would imagine the traffic there back in the day. Seeing those position lights of the Pennsy conjered up thoughts of the Broadway Limited and other trains that frequented that location. if I had only had a cell phone camera back then to keep in my uniform. Thanks for the posting. That must have been a fascinating place 50 years ago, but I hear that you'd be taking your life in your hands there today! Thanks as usual for great memories.
