A UP Freight in Feather River Canyon, 4 shots
Author: MartyBernard

On April 20, 1995 I caught Uncle Pete in the Canyon.  The units were all SD40-2s:
3308 built 7/76 and retired 11/00
3532 built 2/79 and retired 5/04
3824 built 9/79 as MKT 616 renumbered to 3280
3198 built 8/72

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Roster information from Utah Rails.

Looks like a Highline train headed for Bieber, Ca.

Marty, I'm glad you included the shot.  I like the third shot the best for a couple of reasons, the heat waves and accompanying smoke from the locomotives and the mini waterfall.  Thanks for sharing.

I agree. By 1995, the High Line may have deteriorated to a tri-weekly operation. Up to Bieber one day, back the next.

Looking at that first picture, it appears that the track roadbed seems to be very close to the side of that cliff drop-off and wouldn't take much movement of same to create a serious deterioration of that area causing trains to take a bath in the river.
