Late Date McCloud
Author: loleta

In October 2008, the only loads the McCloud Ry. was hauling were the remains of the McCloud itself: gondolas full of scrap metal accumulated as the tracks were removed to Burney and Lookout. In this photo, McCloud 38 switches the interchange at Mt. Shasta while a westbound UP train approaches on the mainline. This scene would not be repeated too many more times.

Nice capture Loleta, thanks for sharing.  That could be the PTLAT cruising south.  Shastina sure looks good in the background.

Would have to be prior to 1996 (ie UP merger) to be a PTLAT train (that's a former SP train symbol); maybe more like a ZBRLC...

Though sad on both aspects, no more SP or McCloud Ry.

Not that it makes much difference to the situation of the McCloud, that's Black Butte in the background. Shastina is much further up the slope of Mt Shasta, Black Butte being a cinder cone an a base seperate from the mountain. Not just any old cinder cone, Black Butte is a cluster of overlapping dacite lava domes with a peak of 6,334 ft. I had always thought it had cracked and somehow shifted, but it's actually new flows overlapping each other.

I was thinking it was the CZLAT.
Check that with the TO search engine and you'll see some interesting discussions.
