Nostalgia & History > Lamoille Valley RR in 1985Date: 02/06/16 12:31 Lamoille Valley RR in 1985 Author: eminence_grise "Vermont's Covered Bridge Road", originally the St.Johnsbury and Lake Champlain went through a variety of owners. In 1982, this single car freight departed northbound from St.Johnsbury, Vermont, the southern terminal. Is anything left of this line today?

ALLEN Date: 02/06/16 17:24 Re: Lamoille Valley RR in 1982 Author: Mberry A mile or two of the line is in use in Swanton by the Central Vermont's successor (New England Central RR) for a woodchip train which serves a power plant in Burlington. The rest has been pulled up.

It was the north/south Central Vermont route that crossed the border into Canada at St-Armand and continued north to Iberville, Quebec. The StJ&LC went east/west through Swanton not north/south. The stub was kept active so that after the closure of the StJ&LC's Swanton covered bridge the two railroads could continue to interchange. KG Edited 1 time(s).
