Author: lamta_jay

I took this picture out in Trona on May 5, 1973

we started the day in San Bernardino seeing #17 or I guess Amtrak #3 with FP45 # 5944 leading

Ended the day at Searles Jct.

Lee Meyers, Dave Smith and Andy Potter

I liked rail fanning with friends, it makes a difference !

Thanks for looking

So since we're on the subject and since we all know him, where is Dave today?

Look carefully at the switch and there is an Adlake kerosene switchlamp on the stand. Trona was one of the last users of these and had them into the early 1980's

"Diesel" Dave currently works a yard job in Dolores, CA near the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. His specific yard job duties I do not know. "Diesel" used to wear Headphone type ear protection, the only employee I know that did, while the rest of us used foam earplugs. His engineer's silhouette was unmistakeable when approaching on an oncoming train.  I haven't seen him in years, he may still wear them.

Last time I saw him he was working the Yermo pool but it's been years, thanks for the reply.
