ex-EJ&E GP38-2 in the South
Author: MartyBernard

Four photos of four Birmingham Southern RR geeps in Bessemer, AL on April 11, 1992.  BS 700, 702, 703, and 704 carried the same road number on the "J".

The fifth photo is of  GP38-2 700 when it was EJ&E's, shown at US Steel, Gary, IN on February 1, 1977.

This how it works when you have a parent in common.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

703 eventually returned to "The J" and received new paint at some point. She was the regular power for the crew out of Waukeegan. Used up there as there were a couple industries who's track had too sharp a curve for the six axle SD's to go. She still roams in J orange even for it's new owner.

I recall reading somewhere that The J had acquired 4 GP30's from the GM&O but they were damaged in a derailment. The EJ&E acquired the GP38-2's as trade-ins on the damaged GP30's.

Now imagine a GP30 in EJ&E (or Birmingham Southern) paint.
