Wellsville Addison and Galeton Wednesday - WAG 1800
Author: refarkas

Wellsville Addison and Galeton 1800 and 1500 (Both GE 132 Ton locomotives originally built for Ford) sit in the deadline outside the locomotive shop in Galeton, PA on 07/26/1973. As far as I know, they never ran for the WAG again.

Excellent shot - that was a neat little railroad.  I have an excellent article from Dec. 1970 RMC on this railroad - well written.

WA&G was known for their fleet of elderly boxcars.  I had seen some of them in various places in Southern Calif, but never in a good spot for a photo.  During a furniture moving run in Sept. 1967, I stopped in San Luis Obispo to get some shots of the SP roundhouse, but found it had been torn down.  But it wasn't a total loss, as I found this boxcar in the yard.

A knowledgable person told me the WAG wooden box cars were hand-me-down ex-B&M cars.

There's a nice little softcover book (B&W photos) on the line and a video too, available at a reasonable price..

Where can I find this book and video on the internet?

The book is titled, "Wellsville, Addison & Galeton, the Sole Leather Line" and it was written by Edward Lewis and published in the early 1970s, I believe. It's not a very thick softcover (stapled) but has a lot of great B&W photos, history and information.

I purchased my DVD from SJB Productions on Ebay. Beware, the scrapping of the line at the end of the video will break your heart; but there is plenty of great movie footage with sound and color in fantastic scenery, snow, and vintage bridges with small villages, often in remote areas, though probably not considered by some as professional like Green Frog, etc.

Apparently before he passed away, Ed allowed his book to be posted on line as a PDF

There is also a B&W movie on the Tube of part of the line with B&O steam before the WAG took over. I thank its called something or another, Galeton & Addison with a passenger train.

Is Galeton pronounced GALE-ton (probably) or (less likely but possible) Guh-LEE-ton?

You'd have to ask the locals.

No, someone who has been around there and heard what the indigents say can answer as well.

I believe one of these  units is in the rail museum at North East Pa.
A nice little museum and worth seeing!
