I realize from the numbering that WABAC is a series of photos, (latest is WABAC 138},  but what does WABAC stand for??

Here's what I found with a Google search:

The Wormhole Activating and Bridging Automatic Computer (or WABAC, pronounced wayback) is a time machine Mr. Peabody invented for Sherman in both the original 1960s cartoon and 2014 film. It's title is a play on names of early computers such as the UNIVAC and ENIAC, reflecting Peabody's love for puns. It is an extremely major plot point in the franchise as it serves as both Mr. Peabody and Sherman's means of having adventures as well as the symbol for Peabody's love towards his boy/son.


 

 I'm the one using the WABAC title, and yes, it's a reference to the old cartoon show- a fave of mine when I was a kid.
A few months ago I unearthed a cache of B&W negs from the 80's.  I had a dark room for a few years and cranked out a couple thousand photos, many of which I've never printed until now.  I decided to run them here as a series, but the locations/subjects jump around quite a bit, so I gave it the WABAC title to tie them all together.

It was easy to dismiss as silly, but actually the writers really understood and loved history and the English language- and relied on their viewers to appreciate the same.
Now that I think of it, it was not unlike Jon Stewart's stuff today- it works best if you're paying attention to  history, culture, and current events.

That quote could have been applied to the midnight goat at Brokaw Road (Santa Clara) on Saturday nights, but since you said "highbrow", you're not talking RR.

​Peabody and Sherman was a cartoon show where Mr Peabody, an intellectual hound dog with glasses, and Sherman a 4eyed ever curious young teenage boy that was supposedly Mr Peabody's owner ... the WABAC MACHINE was a time machine similar to the phone booth concept in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure movie ... the WABAC MACHINE would transport Mr Peabody and Sherman back in time which was sort of like a cartoon history lesson for us little kids watching the show back in the early 60s ...

Yep, but only a segment within a prime time cultural phenominon called the Bullwinkle Show (previously: Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle & hence, the above quotes). The show was one of the few in the history of mankind where its intelligence exceeded that of its general audience. I judge that my early immersion in Rocky & Bullwinkle was responsible for me eventually registering on the I.Q. scale.

Don't worry, I had the same question.  I had a feeling that it was a reference to the phrase "way back," but I wasn't positive of it.

I manged to figure out WABAC on my own, but WAG, that I haven't figured out yet!
