B&M Wreck Dates - Help Please
Author: bob01566

Hi All - On my website,  nerrp.com  I've just posted a series of miscellaneous railroad images shot by my brother and fellow TOer, fqo63.
They include a number of wreck cleanup shots from the late 1950s or early 1960s but we don't have actual dates.
Given the depth of knowledge displayed every day here on TO, we're hoping someone can help narrow down when these wrecks happened.
Many thanks, in advance, for your help.
Bob & Tad

Photos 1,2 &3 are from a B&M wreck in Royalston, MA

Can't help you but I noticed they wrecked some cool equipment in that mishap.  The TP&W, B&O and PRR boxcars got my attention not to mention the NKP trailer.

A photo of the "38 car derailment near Royalston, Mass." appeared in the December 7, 1963 edition of The Grit, a weekly newspaper out of Williamsport PA.

I've never seen the logo that's painted on that TP&W boxcar.  Who in Trainorders land can give some more info on it?

Seems to date from the 1950's and it appears his name was Willie.

An old boss who used to work for B&M (RIP Gary) told me when the M/W workers were called at home to come to a wreck cleanup, they would ask what type of train.  "Merchandise" was the typical answer if you wanted the guys to show up.  To the M/W guys, this meant there might be some free stuff like liquor to take home.  There was bitter disappointment sometimes when they got to the site and saw it was a coal train, instead.

Thanks onblock, Dec 1963 is close enough for me.

Gee, do you think the TP&W boxcar logo would be considered "politically incorrect" today.
