Not sure what a railroad, who's primary source of revenue was the apple harvest, was doing out in the middle of winter. The backup motor was 297, which came from the Glendale & Montrose after the freight service was taken over by UP in 1930. UP maintained the electric operation until 1942, when they got permission to run diesels. In 1985, 297 went to Orange Empire Ry. Museum, where, if the light is right, one can make out the G&M lettering under the UP paint.
