The Tehachapi was a 'heavyweight' Mail train of baggage cars of various types and a 'rider' coach that ran from Los Angeles to Oakland setting out and picking up various cars along the way.  ran from LA over tehachapi to Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto, Pittsburg and Oakland with soem cars going to Sacramento.  More here:  http://espee.railfan.net/tehachapi.html

SP 55-56 Tehachapi ran btw Los Angeles and Fresno.
SP 43-44 Californian ran btw LA and Chicago via EL Paso as counterpart to Golden State w/the Rock Island.
SP 69-70 Coaster ran btw LA and San Francisco via Coast Line.
Santa Fe 51 and 53-54 were motorcars btw San Bernardino and LA via Riverside (oddly a 52 doesn't appear).
Santa Fe 7-8 ran Chicago and LA via La Junta and Albuquerque.

Info from December 1942 OGR.

I believe that the  San Joaquin also had a Sacramento section that was added/cutoff at Lathrop.

Also, there should have been a Santa Fe 52 which wold have been a local LA - San Bernardino.  AT 51 and 53 were WB locals via Riverside (as noted earlier) - through Riverside in the morning and afternoon.  AT 54 came EB through Riverside in the evening.  Oddly enogh, the EB connterpart to AT 51 (the 52) op;erated via Pasadena.

You might note that the OWL ran via Los Banos and all other SP passenger trains ran via Merced.

And what happened to the eastbound "City of Los Angeles": Las Vegas-Salt Lake City-Ogden-Cheyenne-Omaha-Boone, IA-Chicago.

Further on the Fast Mail, Santa Fe #7&8:  Chicago-Kansas City-La Junta-Albuquerque(sp)-Barstow-LA.  Not sure of the routing
between Barstow and LA.

Thanks - these were just the arrivals.  There were departures similar each day.

Eastbound counterpart to train 51 would have been train 42 via  Pasadena.

It was normal for train 53, to operate via Olive.   Have not checked to see if that was the case in your time period.

AT 70 should be AT 79 , all arriving AT&SF trains are odd numbered
There were four San Diegan and one passenger (coast local) from San Diego. In 1942 the local was numbered 75 except for during January and early Feb. 1942 when the local ran as No. 77.
SP 76 the Lark had through cars from Oakland
