Nostalgia & History > Answer to a question Amtrak over Tn PassDate: 05/24/16 07:06 Answer to a question Amtrak over Tn Pass Author: WAF A few years ago, someone asked if Amtrak ever detoured over Tn Pass. I don't recall the answer, but looking through my notes I found a Number 6 detoured over Tn Pass on August 22, 1986. Left Minturn at 6a and arrived in Denver at 405PM. The reason for the detour, 134 derailed at Dell, CO, hopefully after meeting Number 5. The Dotsero Cutoff ( Dell or Range) was a usual place for Number Five to meet 100 and 134

Terrific info, I'm sure many railfan bull sessions have had this question, now there's an answer. Since 6 was on the same basic schedule that it is today, I would ask, was it a day late? One night late, after 0200 or so was up listening to the scanner. This would have been early summer If I recall correctly. Herad them chatting to an EB out west of Parkdale. After listening for abit, realized it was Amtrak. Grabbed my video camera and went down in town at the old EE of the siding at Canon. Waited for awhile and it did finally show up. Somewhere at home on a VHS Tape I believe I may have a shot of this one. I'll have to see if perhaps I can find it. All my notes from that year are back home. It did happen, as I stood and shot and watched it go east. Ben Date: 05/25/16 18:44 Re: Answer to a question Author: ns2557 ns2557 Wrote:

Ben I actually had my notes on a thumb drive with me. It happened on March 11 1997 EB #6 AMT 200 & 814. Didn't jot down times tho, but way late or early depending on you're view. WAF gives a specific date of August 22, 1986, and from previous posts he has very detailed information. NS2557 says he "moved to Canon City in 1997" and videoed Amtrak one night, which would obviously have to be in or after 1997. So, have there been 2 detours? Edited 1 time(s).
