Remember when both SP/SSW and Santa Fe bought the new
high tech 4 axle diesels ?

Well I guess they were looking to the future for some replacement
power for Locals !!!!

Southern had high hopes for the 90 GP50s they bought in 1980-81 for intermodals. Didn't take long for disillusionment to set in.

SP would send the hotshots over San Tim with 4 of those and no helpers and they would
maintain 25 mph up the hill, were pretty impressive when they were new,
