Santa Fe in the Franklin Canyon
Author: ATSF5964

It was the spring of 1992 and I had a new Hi8 video camera, so I was shooting the Santa Fe in Franklin Canyon whenever I got the chance. Both the motive power and car types are typical for the period- a little bit of everything. Most of the locations are unchanged these days, just less traffic than back then.

It seems everything in your video was 4-axle power.  Now, it's seldom that you see anything but 6-axle.  ( Having never been to Franklin Canyon, maybe the terrain dictated 4-axle )

Oh that brings back memories.  I loved Franklin Canyon and each side of the tunnel because it felt like you were miles and miles away from the Bay Area.  Thanks for posting, I can use this to help me with my layout that follows the line.

Thanks so much, this was great footage.

Nice camera work, crisp editing and great sound.  I don't usually have the patience to watch video, but this was a treat.
