The Tulsan and Kansas City Action
Author: BNSF-6432

My father took multiple trips from Tulsa, OK to Kansas City, MO on the Santa Fe's Tulsan for railfan purposes. This is one trip documented on video from 1970 as the train is seen starting off in downtown Tulsa. A few random scenes are thrown in the beginning including a MKT derailment and a SLSF train. the view at 1:45 shows Tulsa Union Depot during bad times. The SF Chief and Grand Canyon can be seen leaving Kansas City after the Tulsan's arrival. Enjoy!

The Santa Fe RR train crews on the SF Chief were based out of Kansas city and Emopria and worked between KC and Wellington. KC nbased engine crews worked between KC and Emporia.  Kansas City and Emporia based engined crews on the Grand Canyon worked between KC and Newton.  KC and Chanute based train crews on the Tulsan at Tulsa, worked between Kansas City and Tulsa. Chanute based engine crews worked between Chanute and Tulsa.

Wow is right!! This is the best five minutes I've spent watching anything for the past month. It's packed! All that AT&SF varnish and power, the freight action, thank you very much.
That departing passenger F on the Tulsan turning on it's oscillating headlight is the kind of detail you just got to like!

First train ride I ever had was on the Tulsan in 1952.  Wait great footage for an ol' guy looking back to Santa Fe days.

Great stuff.  Really nice to see the SantaFe train in Tulsa at the ATSF depot and the maze of tracks that were once there.

Wonderful images by your Dad!  Thank you for sharing!

Did he happen to get more shots of the Union Pacific City of St Louis train or equipment across the platform at the end?
