2. Santa Fe 13 West at Galesburg, IL. Again date unknown, probably early 1950's. Both Photos, W.V. St Peter, Iowa Chapter NRHS Collection. MILW86A Date: 06/29/16 03:56 Re: Warbonnett Wednesday from the lens of W.V. St Peter Author: refarkas Thank you for sharing these images. They are certainly good images of our long-lost passenger train history.

Two things that are interesting are the old depot at Galesburg (is the newer one still standing?) and the double track on CB&Q through Fort Madison. I just thought it was single track there.

St Peter Author: RodneyZona Old Santa Fe Railway train crews on these passenger trains in the above shots were based out of Fort madison, IA and Chillicothe, IL and worked between Fort Madison and Chicago. Fort Madison based or Chicago based engine crews worked between Fort Madison and Chicago. Nice shots!

Cabman, to answer your question, the "new" Gaelsburg Santa Fe depot was razed several years ago. I don't know what happened to the iconic neon sign on the east end. Also, I'm with you on the Q through Ft. Madison, although I'm wondering if this wasn't a siding that got taken out by the BN before the heavier coal traffic started. St Peter Author: NIKS Yes the siding I believe removed about 1980ish or a little later, I remember the BN upgrading the K-Line with ballast and welded rail in the late 1970s and it was still there.
But I could be wrong.... Peter |
