Is Signal Sunday still "A Thing"?
Author: sig292

I've been meaning to put these two shots in a signal Sunday post for awhile but never got around to it.
I guess it's better late than never.
Ken Gear

The first one was taken from the cab of Conrail GP-30 # 2170 (still in full Reading paint) heading east on the former CNJ mainline in 1984. This is CP ROCK in Plainfield, NJ. The signal bridges have all been removed.

The second photo shows Ex-LV signal 292 at New Market (Piscataway) NJ. The headlight of eastbound Conrail train TV-12M is lighting the signal and westbound train SEPY. The photo was taken in February of 1984. Signal 292 had just about a year of service left. The Lehigh Line was single tracked and the signal removed in 1985, Today this line is again double track.

It's still a thing as long as people keep posting great pictures like these!

It's interesting how the signal bridge extends beyond the left support to cover the leftmost track in the first photo.

That track went down a ramp and into a small yard in Dunellen. Local trains called "Rock Drills" serviced local industries. The references to "Rock "for the names of the control point and the trains comes from the road that passes under the tracks here, you guessed it-Rock Avenue.
