An Electrifying PRR Signal + GG1 Sunday
Author: terrybaker

GG1 4854 passing a classic PRR signal in Sunnyside Yards (according to the caption) on Jan. 18, 1961.  This original slide, received in trade 55 years ago, does not not identify the photgrapher, but I believe it was Jim Herold.

Very neat photo - lots of freight cars relative to what is seen here today, I believe. Plus the train consist is all REA Express boxes - are they being taken to Penn Station for loading/unloading?

looks like the headend mail and express taken off a NY terminated passenger train ... LIRR freights ran over that bridge in the background to interchange with the PRR at Sunnyside ... nice photo

LIRR gave freight cars to PRR at Sunnyside?
And PRR took them west thru Penn Station?

I thought LIRR barged most of its PRR  freight interchange over to PRR-Greenville Yards in Jersey City.

Another very active NYC photographer of that era was Herbert G. Frank,Jr., although he favored streetcars & interurbans over heavy rail traction.  But he did photograph heavy electrified, so it could have been him.  He passed away sometime I believe in the 1970's, and it was discovered that he had hundreds of undeveloped rolls of film in his bedroom.  I've no idea if any where subsequently developed or not.  His photography started in the late 40's, continuing possibly into the 70's.
