CCP six unit coal train tops Delaware hill in late 1980,s.
Author: slacks

Not all Powder River coal went east on the BN or CNW. Some trains were handed off to the CCP and this one is typical. As more GP-38,s were aquired to supplement the GP-8,s and GP-10,s, they tended to go onto the tonnage trains. This one topping the hill at Delaware IA was worthy of a tape recorder. Good memories1

I m sure glad I didnt bet a pizza with you on this like I did your brother!

The coal, by the way, either went to Plaines, IL or to Wheatfield IN.

Thanks Slacks,

Well, slacks, I have to add here that the coal on the CCP usually came from the Rock Springs area
of Wyoming, and the Hanna Mine, versus the misnamed Powder River Basin of Wyoming.  Not easy
to tell where this one came from.  Most of the Rock Springs coal went to the Plains Plant near Joliet.
When UP took over the CNW, that traffic vanished.  About all the coal on what was the CCP today
goes to East Dubuque for transloading, and I don't know how often that happens anymore.

Nice shots, thanks for posting.
