Two classic noses kiss
Author: cewherry

Miss Katy,  Alco FA1 83-C,  meet EMD FP7 79-A. These two have more in common than is apparent at first blush of their red paint.
The ALCO is still carrying its builders plate from 1948 but was re-engined by EMD in 1959 hence it carries an additional mark of its pedigree.
KATY sold 79-A to the CNW who retired it in April 1976. 83-C moved on to the Precision National stable but I can't seem to find info of its final demise.
GP-40 183 looks on in the background. Parsons, KS diesel shop is the meeting place in the hot July sun 48 years ago, 1968.

Great photo. As a long time ATSF employee in southeast KS. I encountered the Katy at Coffeyville. The Katy is probably my 2nd favorite RR. Frisco is another I was around at Tulsa and over around Agusta Ks.

Bring back the FA / PA noses.  They'll still look good, no matter what it is!
