Only part of the story....it also eliminated a lot of street running and all grade crossings, provided a gentler ruiling grade, eliminated 42 curves, and raised train speeds. Route 11 is the "old" roadbed converted into a highway. of driving 11 you see a few old freight houses and other "railroad" items.
