WP's California Zephyr running as SP X6261 west
Author: photobob

I shot this train in the early 1960's near Newcastle at MP117. I believe there was a rock slide in the canyon so the SP let them borrow their track and power.

Bob,

Needed the SP unit for the ATS (automatic train stop) on the SP.

And it's double-headed too. No nose MU on the WP FP-7.

This is how I'm going to run my CZ from now on! Hahaha...nice shot Bob. I wonder if this view still exists today at Newcastle (minus the cool train)?

This engine finished out it's carrier in the SP peninsula co mute service     In 1969  I ran this covered wagon on train 153 for engineer Forist Titus. Always remembered that as my first trip running., Later I made my date working the commuters on the 6264 for several years out that  was to merry this engine  it was the Ono with no MU plug just left of the  head light.    Jim McIntyre

Jim, speaking lovingly as a (very-junior-to-you) former Commute engineer, I think you mean the 6462, not 6264. So you ran the 6261 on a Commute? I very occasionally saw freight units on the Commutes, but never an F. That is darn interesting.

Probably.
The WP conductor would be responsible for both the train & company revenue. Up front the WP crew would be ready for a seemless take over at Hagin (Spelling?) when they crossed back onto the WP.

What does the phrase "for several years out was to merry this engine" mean?

What does "it was the Ono" mean?

Great camera and great film.  It looks like it was taken yesterday.

That must have been a summer or holiday consist as it was rare for there to be a coach between the baggage car and the first dome.
