Could someone please explain the purpose of the two yellow disks in this photo? Thanks.

Not being familiar with B&M rules at the time, but I would imagine that it they used alert crews to a temporary speed restriction . Yellow flags are usually place to the right of the track that the restriction is on,and is usually two miles from the restriction.  If the yellow flag is less than two miles from the restriction, that fact would be noted in the train orders or track bulletins.

Interesting photo - must be the east end of the yard just west of the Conn River bridge. And must be a fan trip or OCS train being pulled by the PAs?

Was there pedestrian access to the east end of the yard?  We certainly don't see many photos at this end.  One can easily recognize shots taken from the 'railfan bridge' at the west end.  Even the caboose cupola in this photo seems to have D&H resemblance.  The unknowing would certainly identify this photo as in D&H territory.

That's certainly a D&H caboose in the foreground. I think the photo is on the D&H, not the B&M.

My mistake. I got clarification as it's not my photo:

Yes AB-91 is leaving the D&H side while the caboose is in the B&M side on the west end the freshly ballasted track I think is the BM main to Rotterdam Jct.  Cool shot no idea what the yellow disks mean.

I'd concur with Mopacrr, yellow flags.  Notice the new ballast so it looks like there is definitely new work going on in the area.
