Whatever railroad club sponsored the trip offered a bus ride from San Francisco to Yuba City for a couple of bucks if you didn't want to ride the 1005. I remember I cashed in some 7UP bottles at the corner store and off I went to a hot Yuba City to chase the 1005 by hitching rides with other cheapo railfans.

Gerry The hook was holding down the pole, but there was no retriever for the rope. Looks like the brakemans solution was to wrap it around the headlight so it wouldn't get in the way.
