Nostalgia & History > Santa Fe car shop, Ottawa, Ks. 1910Date: 09/23/16 04:54 Santa Fe car shop, Ottawa, Ks. 1910 Author: LocoPilot750 A photo of two pictures, hung side by side in the "Smoked Creations" barbecue in Ottawa. I think I may have seen this before on an old post card, in one piece. Looks like they worked a lot of stock cars there, back then. Several other good old Santa Fe photos hanging there too, and the food is excellent or better.

He told me that he started his career at the Ottawa shop and went to Wichita and finished up at Topeka. He was quite an interesting character.

These are from the same vantage point, but evidently a different day as the cars in the back lot are different: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ks/franklin/postcards/rrshop.jpg http://www.kansasmemory.org/item/219555/page/1 Date: 09/24/16 14:33 Re: Santa Fe car shop, Ottawa, Ks. 1910 Author: hotrail Looking at Bing maps, it is tough to make out at all where the car shops would have been. There does not seem to be much railroading remaining in Ottawa, KS.

Believe it was right about where the grain elevator is in the middle of this view, across the tracks and a bit north of the old stone depot: https://goo.gl/maps/BoN9zLe17i42 This 1903 map shows the roundhouse and shop complex in the upper left hand corner: http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/499414/Ottawa+City+++Center+Middle/ |
