Donner Pass you'd go thru that underpass under the second F40 in pic 2. Date: 09/24/16 18:30 Re: Donner Summit Author: mp51w Those hikers are getting a full knotch 8 lung full!
That's weird that there is a lounge & diner on the rear. Date: 09/24/16 19:15 Re: Donner Summit Author: photobob My favorite units in a nice location. Good work.

They ran that way so the cars would be in the middle of the train when the Pioneer/Desert Wind cars were on the rear. I fondly recall eating supper going east one evening with the sun shining straight in the rear door window while I was seated facing the rear. Date: 09/25/16 09:39 Re: Donner Summit Author: BoilingMan BTW: The train is on Track 1 (gone now) on the original Donner right of way. I think even then (time of this photo) they preferred not to run 5 & 6 this way if it could be avoided. Today ALL traffic is through Tunnel 41 on Track 2.
SR Date: 09/25/16 09:53 Re: Donner Summit Author: WAF Not really. Had to run a few trains over the Number One. Why not 5 in the non snow months if conditiond permitted. Rarer would be Number Six going thiis way, but did happen quite a bit in 91-92
