Early Amtrak consists?
Author: johnrr88

Does anyone have a source for early (e Heritage Fleet/ early 70's ) consists? For example, Amytrak took over the glamour trains such as the
Broadway Limited and the Super Chief almost immediately. Is there any published info on when  they changed the traditional consists?
thanks!

Here's a good one:

Amtrak: The National Railroad Passenger Corporation - 1978-1979 Annual  by Craig T Anderson

Thanks. Did they put out these Annuals out every year? I'm looking for the early 70s, but this is a great start.

Also an excellent source (but hard to find) is "Zephyrs, Chiefs and Other Orphans:  The First Five Years of Amtrak" by Fred Frailey.  The pages are typed but there's a wealth of data about each train in the network and the equipment assigned to it at various points.

Agreed.  Frailey's book is an excellent resource.

Yep, I use that one every so often. Pretty basic but usually answers 'my' question.

On the internet, people always say
"such-and-such book will answer
all your questions". It's never true.
But Frailey's book comes closer
than you ever thought possible;
if you get it, you don't need any
others. (Except Wayner.)
