I admire you for taking a couple of weeks to do clean up and trail restoration in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Question on BN 6592, the ex-GN SDP45: Do you know if BN assigned this unit for Amtrak service or was it strictly a freight locomotive at the time you took the photo? Date: 10/23/16 17:37 Re: Summer of '75 Adventure, Part 1 Author: GPutz Thanks for thencompliment, RuleG.
I don't know if the BN SDP45s were ever used in Amtrak service. I never saw that, and I can't recall ever seeing a picture of that. Like CMSTP&P with its FP45s, and unlike AT&SF with its FP45s, BN may have kept its SDP45s and SDP40s for freight service. When I lived in Denver, 9//73 - 8//74, I did see BN SDP40s and SDP45s in freight service. By the summer of '75 I think Amtrak had sufficient SDP40Fs, so they didn't need the SDP45s. Gerry |
