Wymore, NE
Author: Atomicpunk

Here are a few pictures of Burlington Northern's Wymore, Nebraska yard right after the BNSF merger in the mid 90s.  At the time, Wymore was still a BN town before Santa Fe blue and yellow began to invade.  If I remember correctly, I went up on a weekend and nobody was in the yard and the SD9 and GP39M was shutdown.  In the first picture, you can see the old CB&Q machine shop. Hope you enjoy these imagines.

I lucked out and found the "Wymore Local" caboose spotted at the west end of the yard.  At the time, you can still see what was left of the ex-CB&O fueling facilities.

Enjoy!

Nice look back! Wymore was a cool little 'diversion' for me while I was making the occasional trek back & forth to Lincoln from the south. It seemed like whenever you arrived on the RR scene there you stepped backward in time. Even with Cascade green all around you got a definite sense of the late 1950s/early 1960s...

Good stuff!  You'd hardly recognize it now.  Thanks for posting!

The Wymore Story: A History of the Wymore Division of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad is a good history of the area and is available on Amazon in paperback.
