Yesterday post by ghCBNS about the Toronto-Buffalo RDC service made me dig out and scan the slides from last time I rode RDCs into Toronto from Niagara Falls. Just before the end of RDC service did a quick three day trip departing from Niagara Falls on VIA #640. Instead of a hotel stay in Toronto it was overnight in a bedroom on the Northland to Matheson where we returned back to Toronto on the Northlander. Then it was overnight in a hotel. Final morning another RDC ride to London then back east on #72 to Burlington West for the final leg on #61 to Niagara Falls. Here are some of the photos at the Falls.

Excellent post!  The last shot with the sun glint on the RDC especially good!

Always hated those things until they were almost gone.

Now I'm forking out big money to buy a few in HO.  Two PCs and an NYC coming from Rapido when they get off the boat.

Nice pix, really capture the somber mood of winter in the Niagara Frontier.

What wonderful photos. I am suddenly 14 again, hanging out at the west end of Union Station watching the trains in and out.

Thanks for posting. Great photos.

One thing I don't understand about CN/VIA RDCs is the diaphragms. They seem to be inconsistently applied. Were they winter only? I've seen a lot of photos with just a frame. Photo 6 shows both versions.

What other RR's used diaphragms?
