Disappearing Englewood Blues
Author: lowerberth

Sorry for the bad image (early morning, through Metra tinted plastic at 70 mph), but thought current state of the former Englewood Station would be of interest. This is looking SE from the Metra Rock Island Englewood flyover out along the former NYC tracks as they curved to the east to parallel the PRR. The structure and tracks that used to span 63rd Street have been torn out and left as a pile on the south side of 63rd.

It must have been a busy morning as the crews would have had to restore the track in time for the passage of the inbound Century less than two hours later.

Thanks for the interesting photo.  It has been over 40 years since I last ventured to that location
to see the old station.  Looks like some rails were left hanging over the street and I can only wonder
how long it will take to clean up the debris.

IIRC, the former NYC main was shut down as a main in about 1972 by PC? Were these tracks then used as part of the yard? Had they been out of service for a long time?

Those former NYC main tracks were used as yard tracks for sure until 1979 when I left Englewood.
I am pretty sure they stayed in service long after that, there was even a hand throw connection to the
Metra ex-Rock Island mains at 61st St. (don't know if it was ever used).

I believe these tracks were known as 21 and 22 Runner----however I'm not certain......

21 and 22 Runner sounds plausible, as the NYC/PC had a track from JN Tower to CR called Track 24.
Time to look for my old timetables and see if they are mentioned.
