These are 17 and 19 on the same roll of film and the sky in both very similar.  Roger Puta took these in September 1982.

I once travelled a road with strong resemblance to this scene.  California 58 near Edwards AFB in the high desert.  I think the rail line was between Barstow on the east and Mojave on the west.

I would say somewhere along state route 43 between Corcoran and Wasco in San Joaquin Valley in California.

I would agree.  Taken from just off Hwy 43 possibly somewhere between Wasco and Allensworth.

More specifically, the first is eastbound at the east end of Allensworth siding.

The second is a westbound and looks to be the first set of intermeidiate signals east of Corocoran.
