OK, another SW-1
Author: tomstp

Here are 2 shots of Ft Worth Belt (owned by Texas & Pacific) in Ft Worth Tx.  Its basic work was the stockyards of north Ft Worth.

T&P subsidiary, judging by the paint scheme.

Yes, T&P paint schemes.  6018 was renumbered from number 1 which it wore for many years in a solid black  T&P  paint scheme.  And, it was the very first SW-1 built by EMD.  I heard it was still in service on another road as late as 2005 but, I am not sure of that date.  Anyone know?

Back in 1983 got to railfan Fort Worth on the weekends with a row engineer who lived in my sub-division and worked for the UP as a former Mop employee. He gave me a tour of the old Fort Worth Belt trackage; the company had him locating and re-furbishing paved over leads to small warehouses around Northside Drive and North Main. He worked of off old FWB maps and used a metal detector to locate the rails, then they'd talk to the potential "on line" customers to see if they were interested getting or restoring rail service, mostly small food and condiment producers and a few manufacturers. If they were , the company would open up the rail, grind and surface between rails and help the customer with the doors and loading/unloading equipment. Mostly tankcars or covered hopper traffic.Once that "project" had run its course the UP moved him down to Houston for more of the same.
Jim was a lot of fun and taught me how to extract the good info from an employee timetable(he had a big collection of them from all roads), also had a great slide collection.
The"Belt' then was a neat little throw back line, it still had wig-wag crossing signals.
I assume these are more of Dick Kuelbs shots, thanks for posting.

In this old thread, it was mentioned that Fort Worth Belt #1, serial number 803 built January 1939, was the first production SW1, but was preceded by EMC demonstrator 755, serial number 755 built December 1938, as the first first SW1.

The 755 became Inland Steel 51, and was reportedly traded in to EMD in 1966.
